Saturday, September 19, 2009
Come and enjoy Point Pleasant Beach's 33rd annual street fair and seafood festival. The all day event combines great food, a craft bazaar and entertainment. For Point Pleasant Beach it is a chance to extend their summer season and give people a reason to come to the beach in September. For visitors, there are two main draws. One is a chance to sample seafood from twenty five local establishments. Second is the opportunity to walk around the hundreds of booths and sidewalk displays that take over Arnold and Bay Avenues.
Some of the seafood available includes such treats as bisque, crab cakes, shrimp, lobster, fish and more. There are also non-seafood items, for those that aren't that taken by the lovely things from the sea!
The craft vendors are out in force, selling all kinds of hand made items. Local musician and other entertainment acts perform throughout the day on a stage at the corner of Arnold and River Avenues. There are also public information and health booths, pony rides for the kids and some children's games. In the evening there are fireworks on the beach - that can be viewed from the boardwalk.
First concieved as a way of extending the summer for the borough, it has grown into an event that attracts more than 60,000 people. The Festival has been awarded the American Bus Association's one of "The top 100 events in North America", and one of the best "tree entertainment", by the Asbury Park Press's best of Monmouth/Ocean County readers' Peoples Choice Award.
The festival runs from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. and shuttles are provided from the larger beach lots to downtown.
